Location: Gonzales, California

The Role: The Product Development Representative will be responsible for working directly with the sales team regarding all aspects of developing interest and adaptability to the seed market on High Density varieties. Representative will also be expected to assist with other PD programs and take part in all aspects of trials which includes planting, thinning, scouting, evaluating, etc.

Areas of Responsibility:  This role will be engaged and oversee, but is not limited to:

  • Work directly with Sales Team
  • Develop and Execute Trialing Program
  • Computerize and distribute all trial maps in a timely basis
  • Monitors all trials and provide clear report to salesmen on status of trials
  • Evaluate all trials & communicate with sales department
  • Develop Season review report
  • Assists in developing planting guides with pictures and descriptions
  • Manage Inventory of all trial seed
  • Assist other departments as time permits
  • Travel to various Production areas

Preferred Skills and Qualifications: 

  • 2 or 4 year degree in a related field to agriculture (crop science etc.) or 2-3 plus years of experience in similar field. A combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Direct experience in farming or harvesting Spinach/Springmix is preferred
  • Ability to resolve issues effectively in a professional and timely manner
  • Able to evaluate/analyze data accurately and consistently
  • Highly computer literate and experience Microsoft family of software
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish preferred
  • Strong verbal, written and communication skills
  • Ability to manage a variable work schedule around the crop needs
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Must have a clean DMV driving record

Ideal candidate:

  • Ability to travel to farming production areas throughout the US with the majority of travel on the west coast. This will include travel to Yuma, Arizona during the Season. Travel will consist of a pre-determined schedule.
  • Good social skills and ability to develop long term industry relationships
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with a great attention to detail
  • Enjoys working in a team environment and being part of a long-term healthy culture that promotes excellent work environment.

The Role:The Production Representative will be responsible in assisting all phases of Seed Production. Interaction with Production Manager and Assistant Manager as well as other departments within 3 Star Lettuce is vital to the success of this position. This position reports to the Production Manager.

Areas of Responsibility: This role will be engaged and oversee, but is not limited to:

  • Assist in all phases of Seed Production Pre-planning:
    • Soil Sampling
    • Production Meeting
    • Ground Prep
    • Field Mapping
    • Stock Seed Organization
  • Assist in all Phases of Seed Production Planting & Growing:
    • Planting
    • Growing (Gemination/Thinning/Deheading/Stripping/Topping)
    • Rouging (Quality/Seed Color/Disease)
  • Assist in all phases of Seed Harvest (Mechanical/Manual):
    • Pre-Harvest (Organizing next day harvest equipment/supply needs)
    • Organize FLC harvest crews
    • Oversee FLC harvest crews
    • Post-Harvest (Pick up and Tag All Seed/Store Seed)
  • Assist in all phases of Equipment Maintenance during the off season
  • Responsible for Monitoring, Reporting and maintaining all Aphid Traps
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with customers, team members that reflect a reputation for professional communications, service, trust, integrity, reliability, attention to detail and urgency.
  • Works effectively and collaborates as a team member and promotes a positive Company image.

The Internship: In this role, the intern will receive pragmatic seed breeder training, providing talent pool for our company moving forward.  This internship offers real world education for the next generation of vegetable plant breeders.  This role provides hands on assistance to our onion, lettuce and celery breeding programs, assists and supports the breeding operation with the collection and preservation of data and assists in trial and nursery seeding and evaluation as directed by team leader.
